Working in a construction store, in which, in addition to building materials, tools were sold, including electric ones, I have repeatedly encountered buyers to choose as universal tools as possible. I understand such a desire, after all, the power tool is not cheap, and most of us do not need it at all often.
However, do not forget that universality is always a compromise. If the tool can do everything, then almost certainly, he does not know how to do anything well, and if he does well, then the performance and convenience of this tool leave much to be desired. Therefore, if you are constantly building something, you need to, at least a little to understand the purpose and capabilities of the tools. Why is it necessary? For clarity, I will give a couple of examples.
One man needed a power tool for drilling holes in the concrete wall and screwing screws. For these purposes, he looked at the punch with a capacity of 1050 watts, with a vertically located engine and a weight of 7 kg! Imagine?! Such a perforator can be successfully used as a jack of a hammer, for example, break brickwork. Even if you do not take into account the fact that the perforator has a special fast -packed cartridge (they don’t let it out to it), that it has only two modes, drilling with a blow and deterrence. How can you wrap the screws with a colossus weighing 7 kg.! It’s like clogging small nails with sledgehammer.
The second case. A young man came to my store, went to the stand with a power tool, poked a finger at the shirt, they say, I take. I begin to draw up documents and then he asks, and sandpaper is attached?! I say in misunderstandings, and where will you insert it into the rubble? It turned out that he needed a grinding machine. He had never seen her before and had a vague idea of her (apparently, too). I had to advise him in detail, I would even say to instruct, no matter what a person bought it,.
That’s like everything. By the way, the most universal power tool is a drill. So many different nozzles are now being sold to it, with the help of which one drill will replace: a grinder and a jigsaw, a polishing machine and a mixer, a screwdriver and even a lathe.
