Roofing mastics can be bitumen, polymer and bitumen-polymer. They include a solvent, filler and various kinds of additives. Mastics are used in cold or hot form as an independent material for the arrangement of new and repairing old roofs or as adhesive material for fastening roller roofing material to the base.
When using mastic, it is imperative to reinforce the roofing with a glass window (a panel from arbitrarily placed fiberglass) or glass with a net (woven from very durable glassons, a network with 4×4 mm cell size). Both materials are durable, and they are customary to use as reinforcing gaskets.
Mastic is applied to 2-3 layers and each layer is reinforced. After application, the mastic hardens and forms a continuous seamless rubber -like coating, which has good protective and waterproofing properties. Various types of mastics can have different resistance to ultraviolet. Therefore, to protect and extend the service, for example, bitumen mastics, it is recommended to cover them with sprinkling of small gravel, large sand, river pebbles or apply special paints on top.
Modern mastics can be given the desired color. For this, dyes are added to them, which can be done both in the factory and on the construction site before using mastic. For this, waterless dyes with a high pigment content are used.
Mastic are one -component and two -component. For example, one -component mastics is easier to use and they can immediately be applied to the surface. Two -component mastics must be prepared before use (two compositions are included – a viscous homogeneous mastic mass and powder), but this inconvenience is compensated by the fact that it becomes possible to change the properties of mastic in accordance with current requirements.
